10th annual Mawazine World Rhythms Festival – May 20-28, 2011
For all lovers of arts and culture, the next Mawazine World Rhythms Festival, organized by the Moroccan Cultural Association, will take place on May 20 to 28, 2011, in Rabat. This edition marks the festival’s 10th anniversary and will be celebrated in fine form, as in previous years, with a rich and diverse lineup of artists.
Last year’s edition of the Mawazine Festival featured more than 100 performances in 8 venues. Drawing 2,269,000 spectators over a period of 9 days, Mawazine 2010 showcased artists from 50 countries and featured world-renowned headliners such as Sting, Majda Roumi, Elissa, Carlos Santana, Don Bigg, Mika, Abdelhadi Belkhayat, BB King, Tamer Hosny, and Sir Elton John.
Among the most popular acts were the festival’s 9 street performances, each one more enchanting than the next, filling the city’s main arteries with the rhythms and sounds of a variety of cultural landscapes and entertaining thousands of onlookers. An exhibition was also staged to indulge contemporary art lovers from around the world.
With its 2010 edition, Mawazine would henceforth be known as one of the most popular music festivals on the planet. It rose deftly to the challenge of bringing world music together, offering free concerts, street performances, cultural presentations, and art exhibitions of international scope. Mawazine 2011 promises even more excitement and passion, raising the bar once again to a level worthy of the capital of the Kingdom of Morocco.
